Religious College in Maryland Wins Battle Over State Funds
A federal judge ruled in August that Maryland could not exclude Columbia Union College, a Seventh-day Adventist institution of 1,100 students, from a program that distributes state funds to private institutions. Columbia Union sued Maryland to participate in the program, arguing that the college had been unconstitutionally excluded because of its religious affiliation.
In 1992, state officials turned down Columbia Union's application for aid under the Rev.
