Background: Becky Pendergast has been an assistant managing editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education since 2005, after joining the staff as an assistant art director in 2004. She supervises the seven-person art department and manages aspects of producing The Chronicle and The Chronicle Review, both in print and online.

She designs graphics and visual presentations for The Chronicle, including Page A1 for the print publication, and advises other designers as well as editors, photo editors, and reporters about the visual presentation of story content.

Pendergast has worked as a designer and editor at several media companies, including Eagle-Tribune Publishing, in North Andover, Mass., and Seacoast Media Group, in Portsmouth, N.H., from 1995 through 2004. During that time, she shaped the visual image of newspapers, magazines, and Web site. She executed successful redesigns for a daily and four weekly newspapers.

Although Pendergast is well versed in design, her experience also extends to public relations, marketing and communications, and special events in the higher-education, mutual-fund, and publishing industries and in nonprofit organizations.
