Reading 'Lolita' in Tehran
Azar Nafisi was educated in the United States and Europe before returning home to Tehran on the eve of the Iranian revolution in 1979. She taught English literature first at the University of Tehran (from which she was expelled for not wearing a veil) and later at the University of Allameh Tabatabai. For two years before she left Iran, in 1997, she taught literature to a private class of young women; her experiences are recounted in her memoir,
