Reaching Out to Hispanic Students

While I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments expressed by Marta Tienda and Susan Simonelli about the need for at least a short-term continuance of affirmative action as a way to enroll more Hispanic/Latino students in competitive four-year universities, at the University of California at Irvine we have many very successful outreach programs targeted to these students ("Hispanic Students Are Missing From Diversity Debates," The Review, June 1).
