Racial Preferences in College Admissions

In "The Debate Over Race Needs Minority Students' Voices" (Point of View, February 25), Theodore M. Shaw consistently misstates the fundamental issue in the cases challenging the use of racial and ethnic preferences by college admissions offices. It is not whether blacks and Hispanics should have a right of access to those institutions and the opportunity to attend them, or whether they should be off-limits and those students should be locked
