Putting the Sale of Art Into Focus

A major point is missing from "Randolph College Will Auction Some of Its Valuable Paintings" (The Chronicle, October 12).
Randolph College's statement that it needs to sell portions of its permanent art collection in order to remain financially viable couldn't be further from the truth. With only about 700 students, the college's $153-million endowment is already generous. …
