Publisher Identifies Israeli-Born Jew as 'Iraqi Exile'; Author of Book on Censorship Battles Limits on Expression
THE ARABIST UNDER WRAPS: According to the literary editor of the Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat, an "Iraqi exile living in Israel" has written the best study ever of the seminal modern Iraqi poet Abd al-Wahhab al-Biyyati.
The "Iraqi exile" in question is Reuven Snir, actually an Israeli-born Jew who chairs the department of Arabic language and literature at the University of Haifa. He can thank his Arab publisher, Dar al-Saqi, for the misunderstanding.
