Public Colleges May Hide Salaries of Privately Paid Employees, Delaware Official Says
The Delaware attorney general's office has declared that public colleges are not obliged to disclose the salaries of employees paid with private funds.
The legal opinion, issued last month by the state's deputy attorney general, W. Michael Tupman, was a setback for Common Cause of Delaware in its efforts to force Delaware State University to disclose the salaries of two lawmakers on its payroll.
The advocacy group had accused the university of violating the state's open-records
