Public Colleges Fear Accounting Rules Will Make It Appear That They Run Deficits
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board has adopted rules that will make financial reporting by public colleges conform more closely with that of private institutions. Observers fear, however, that a provision of the new standards will make it appear that the public institutions are running deficits.
College business officers have long maintained that public and private institutions should be treated similarly. The new rules have been expected since the
