Proposed Changes in Perkins Loan Program Leave Student-Aid Officials Wary

Speaking at the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators conference Monday, Education Department officials tried to persuade colleges that President Obama’s proposed new Perkins Loan program would resemble the existing one.

“You will still, in some respects, have the classic Perkins program,” said Daniel Madzelan, the department's acting assistant secretary for postsecondary education. “It will look something like the old Perkins program,”
