Your story "African Universities Begin to Face the Enormity of Their Losses to AIDS" (March 2) should be understood as another example of the sensationalism (even hysteria) that accompanies any Western discussion of AIDS in Africa. ...
The claim that African universities are being decimated by AIDS is based on error. The majority of those African academics whose skills are competitive have all fled to the West in search of higher salaries and better research
