Progress Toward Stem-Cell Therapy
For the first time, researchers have created cloned monkey embryos using a variation on the technique used to clone Dolly the sheep, and extracted embryonic stem cells. It is possible that a similar technique could be used to generate cells, matched to individual patients, that could replace diseased tissue.
The work was conducted by scientists at Oregon Health & Science University and published online by Nature last week.
