Professors and Students, Doctors and Patients: in Search of a Good Analogy

Phillip H. Shelley's suggested comparison of students to patients has merit as it relates to emphasizing student responsibility in the higher-education setting, but a couple of issues preclude the analogy from being entirely applicable ("Colleges Need to Give Students Intensive Care," The Chronicle Review, January 7).
