Professors of Color on the Tenure Clock

To the Editor:

As an assistant professor, I read with great interest about the proposal at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor to extend the tenure process for junior faculty members ("Off the Clock," The Chronicle, July 21). Even though I would not want to see an extension of the tenure clock at my current institution, I believe that it is a good idea to raise the issue, and I commend the University of Michigan for taking on the challenge. ...
