Professor for a Day: a Call for Role Reversal

To the Editor:

"Downturn Threatens the Faculty's Role in Running Colleges" (The Chronicle, February 6) reports that faculty members in the University of Tennessee system and elsewhere increasingly see administrators' hastily conceived plans during these challenging times as another situation in which faculty members are not listened to. One must ask, though, how many faculty members have any experience that would help them offer informed input in such areas as fiscal planning,
