Professor Arrested at UMass at Boston After Clash With Military Recruiter

A faculty member at the University of Massachusetts at Boston was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest early this month after an altercation with a recruiter for the National Guard.

The military recruiter had told Anthony M. Van Der Meer, an adjunct professor of Africana studies at the university, that he and a student should be "shot in the head" for their antiwar views, according to eyewitnesses.

Shouting ensued, and the police were summoned to restore
