Private Colleges and Public Funds

To the Editor:

I read with great interest "The States' Failure to Support Higher Education," by F. King Alexander (The Chronicle Review, June 30). Let me applaud President Alexander's call for a comprehensive dialogue on the ways and means of financial support for higher education. His insight into the complex issues surrounding the politics of support is helpful and stirs me to suggest a few nuances that also need to be considered.
