To the Editor:
Your story on the Lumina Foundation for Education’s college-accessibility study did an excellent job of highlighting concerns about serious flaws in the research (“Report on College Access Angers Private Institutions,” January 18). Far from improving accessibility, the report, “Unequal Opportunity: Disparities in College Access Among the 50 States,” could well have the opposite effect, leading middleand lower-income families to believe that college is out of reach, and that independent colleges and universities are particularly unaffordable.
