Private-College Trustees Must Control Costs
During the past two decades, public outcry over rising college prices at selective private colleges has escalated. Although since 1995 tuition has not risen relative to median family income, the damage has been done. The previous increases in tuition that took a growing share of family incomes over many years, coupled with the rapid growth in endowments that accompanied the recent stockmarket boom, have led many families to wonder why higher-education institutions are still raising tuitions
