Prime Numbers

Enrollments in foreign-language courses are on the rise again, after a dip in the early '90s. The Modern Language Association reports that 1,151,283 undergraduates took such courses in 1998, up from 1,096,603 in 1995. Here are some winners and losers:

Spanish 656,590 +8.3%
French 199,064
