Presidents' Responsibilities and Remuneration

To the Editor:

Concerning "An Update on the 2006-7 Pay of Presidents at Public Institutions" (The Chronicle, March 9), what strikes me is the vast difference among the institutions of the 10 highest-paid presidents in other ways — enrollment and budget, for example.

Perhaps your resident number crunchers could also tell us how much each president is receiving per full-time student, per full-time undergraduate, per dollar of university budget, per dollar of research
