Presidential Spouses Deserve Compensation
To the Editor:
"Presidential Spouses: Worth Taking Seriously, and Worth Paying" (The Chronicle, November 21, 2008) revisits a continuing discussion on whether universities should compensate the presidential spouse. As I was able to demonstrate in a 2008 study, compensation was only one of various concerns shared by all presidential partners, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, marital status, and sexual orientation.
Financial security was the driving force behind the duo
