President of U. of Massachusetts System Resigns Under Fire
The president of the University of Massachusetts system, William M. Bulger, has resigned, ending months of controversy that included an attempt by the state's Republican governor to eliminate his job, as well as criticism over his role in the federal investigation of his mobster brother, one of the FBI's 10 most-wanted fugitives.
The Board of Trustees accepted the resignation last month and approved a severance package worth nearly $1-million. The package includes $695,000 in salary,
