President Wraps Up 34-Year Stint at U. of Louisiana at Lafayette

Today is the last day in office for Ray P. Authement, president of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and very likely the nation’s longest-sitting public-university president. After serving as interim president for a year, Mr. Authement took the helm at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1974, 25 years before the university assumed its current name. Mr. Authement will be succeeded on Wednesday by E. Joseph Savoie. —Paul Fain
