President Receives Faculty No-Confidence Vote at Carson-Newman College

Professors at Carson-Newman College voted no confidence today in their president, James S. Netherton, faulting him for declines in enrollment and recent faculty demotions, according to a report on the Web site of WATE, a television station in Knoxville, Tenn. The vote against Mr. Netherton, who has been president for more than six years, was 129 to 71. The no-confidence resolution at the college, a small Baptist institution in Jefferson City, Tenn., does not seek Mr. Netherton’s resignation. Rather, it asks the college’s Board of Trustees to discuss, at its meeting this month, the concerns cited by the faculty.
