President Goes on Leave After Second DUI

James J. McGovern, president of A.T. Still University, went on medical leave last weekend, just three days after a newspaper revealed that he was arrested in November for a suspected drunken-driving violation, his second in four years.

The police arrested Mr. McGovern, 68, after seeing him turn into the wrong lane and nearly hit a median, the Kirksville Daily Express reported. After his previous arrest, in 2004, he admitted no guilt but acknowledged that enough evidence existed for his conviction, according to the newspaper.

The main campus for A.T. Still, an institution specializing in health-care education and osteopathic medicine, is in Kirksville, Mo. University officials granted Mr. McGovern’s leave on Saturday. They would neither confirm nor deny that the leave was linked to his arrest. Mr. McGovern is scheduled to appear in court next month. —Paul Fain
