President Accused of Misspending at 2-Year College in Michigan

The interim president of Lansing Community College, in Michigan, has denied accusations that she misspent thousands of dollars in college funds, the Lansing State Journal reported today. The president, Judith Cardenas, was accused in a report last week by the college’s lawyer, Tim Zeller, to the Michigan auditor general.

Mr. Zeller has since been suspended, although the college would not say why. One reason may be that he contacted the state official with his concerns instead of the college’s board. But the board chairman apparently had Mr. Zeller’s report, but did not share it with his fellow trustees. This is the latest controversy to hit the college, whose previous president quit seven months ago after a dispute with the board.
