Prepaid-Tuition Plans Reduce Eligibility for Need-Based Aid, Report Says
Families who expect to receive need-based student aid to help finance their children's college educations may unintentionally be reducing their eligibility for such aid by saving for college, particularly through prepaid-tuition plans, according to a report released last month by the Lumina Foundation for Education.
As tuition costs have soared in recent years, a growing number of parents have flocked to prepaid-tuition plans and state-sponsored college-savings plans.
