Practical Education and the Liberal Arts

As M. Garrett Bauman's "The Double Consciousness of Community Colleges" (Community Colleges, October 26) makes clear, community colleges are charting an important new course on which students do not have to choose either a liberal-arts education (as advocated by W.E.B. Du Bois) or a practical education (as advocated by Booker T. Washington). Rather, they can have the best of both.
