'Possession'
What it is: The director Neil LaBute's latest film, adapted from A.S. Byatt's novel of the same name, about an English professor (Gwyneth Paltrow) and a research assistant (Aaron Eckhart) who uncover a secret love affair between two Victorian poets and end up falling in love themselves.
Our expert: Marguerite Rippy, an assistant professor of English at Marymount University, in Virginia. Many of her best friends are research assistants and "have been for far too long."
