Portrait of a Ballet Reconstruction: Agnes de Mille's 'The Four Marys'
In today's dance world, the constraints of time, space, and money too often dictate a company's selection of repertory. Fortunately, on rare occasions, a ballet may be, like Charles Dickens's Dr. Manette, "recalled to life." This fall, at Southern Methodist University, students in the dance division joined me in reviving "The Four Marys," a nearly forgotten masterwork by the choreographer Agnes de Mille.
