As Barack Obama remains the top recipient of individual campaign donations from college administrators, faculty members, and other educators, The Hartford Courant examined the political contributions of employees of Yale University and how they follow the national trend.
The newspaper said Yale employees have donated $191,000 to presidential candidates, only a third as much as people who work at Harvard University, but enough to make Yale the eighth-largest political donor in the education field. Among Yale employees, Mr. Obama has received $3 for every $1 donated to Hillary Rodham Clinton, according to the article.
In the latest national totals reported by the Center for Responsive Politics, college employees and other educators gave Mr. Obama close to $5.1-million through March 20 to support his bid for president. That is nearly 56 percent more than the close to $3.3-million they donated to Mrs. Clinton. Meanwhile, they provided John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, just over $510,000.
