A local police report says mental illness is to blame for a murder-suicide last September on the campus of Shepherd University. According to The Journal, a newspaper in Martinsburg, W.Va., that obtained a copy of the police report, a father who was already under care for mental illness shot his two sons out of an unreasoning fear that one of them would be taken away. He then shot himself.
