Pluto, We Hardly Knew Ye
In August last year, at a meeting of the International Astronomical Union, 424 astronomers kicked Pluto out of the exclusive club of real planets and sealed off the pantheon from the likes of Pluto and the newly discovered object Eris. This action was taken after a working group failed to agree on a definition of a planet, and after a recommendation to expand the number of planets to at least 12 was rejected overnight and without formal discussion by the astronomers in attendance.
