Playing on a College Team Soaks Up Students' Time

To the Editor:

The story "For Athletes, How Much Practice Time Is Too Much?," by Alex P. Kellogg (June 1), points out that college athletes have a greater need for time to devote to their studies than for pay for performing athletically. There is no disputing that college teams routinely violate the 20-hour work week. Counting three hours for a football game is ridiculous because most games take longer than that to play. There isn't much respite for the athletes during the off-season
