Plan Advances at U. of Minnesota to Publish Average Grades

The University of Minnesota moved a step closer last month to adopting a proposal to report on students' average grades in academic programs in order to put individual grades in context and to thwart grade inflation.

The Faculty Consultative Committee, the executive arm of the Faculty Senate, recommended in mid-April that the university make information about the grade distribution publicly available on its Web site, detailing the percentage of A-range grades and the average grades
