People of the Word
To the Editor:
Is it useful to ask, "Are religious people stupid? Are atheists smarter?" (Critical Mass, The Chronicle Review, June 27). To be useful, the answer must cover all humanity, not just the intellectual elite. That would require a very large, expensive survey, with very carefully crafted definitions.
