The union representing 350 non-faculty coaches at the 14 state-owned universities in Pennsylvania reached a tentative contract agreement today with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, the union representing coaches and faculty members, is still negotiating with the system for a new faculty contract. The union has threatened a faculty strike starting on Monday.
The coaches’ new four-year contract, which is subject to ratifying votes by the coaches and by the system’s board, would give full-time coaches a $1,250 cash payment at the beginning of the 2007-8 academic year and annual raises of 2.25 percent in each of the next four years. The coaches had threatened to strike and cancel summer camps if an agreement was not reached by the end of the day Saturday. —Elizabeth Quill
