Penn Picks a New President; Ex-Editor of 'The New York Times' Joins Columbia U.; Boston U. Makes an Interim Dean Permanent; Rice U. Hires a President
PENN PICKS PREZ: The University of Pennsylvania has chosen Amy Gutmann, Princeton University's provost, as its next president.
Ms. Gutmann, 54, will take the helm in July. A professor of political philosophy at Princeton since 1976, she has written about ethics, public affairs, and affirmative action. As Princeton's provost and, before that, dean of the faculty, she won a reputation for luring star professors.
