Payback
Old Dominion University's president, Roseann Runte, hardly expected a raise when the institution's Board of Visitors met last month to assess her performance. Times are tough for Virginia's public colleges, and some people on the campus argued that the president's pay should mirror faculty salaries, which have remained flat.
So when the board voted -- after a fair amount of debate -- to raise her salary by $25,000 for the current academic year, Ms. Runte did the first thing
