Partisan Bickering Kills Student-Aid Bill in U.S. House
Citing "autocratic" bullying from Republican leaders, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives defeated a bill last week that would have eased a law requiring college dropouts to repay part of their federal student-aid awards. The bill also would have clarified that home-schooled students are eligible for financial aid without having to earn a general high-school equivalency diploma.
