Part-Time Faculty Members in Washington State Win Key Battle Over Benefits
Part-time professors in Washington State's community-college system have won a key victory in their fight to have the work they do outside the classroom counted toward their retirement benefits.
A state court ruled last month that, in addition to class time, institutions must count the hours that part-timers spend preparing for class, advising students, and grading papers when determining the professors' eligibility for retirement benefits.
