Part-Time Faculty Members and Unions
To the Editor:
Scott Smallwood's "United We Stand?" (February 21) fails to mention why all part-time faculty members should have the option of forming their own, separate unions: In nearly all colleges, full-time faculty members serve as managers of part-timers, insofar as they participate in the hiring and evaluating of adjuncts. This conflict of interest between part-time and full-time faculty members explains why faculty unions have been derelict in their federally mandated duty
