Parents Win Settlement for Son's Death in Hazing

Austin, Texas -- Two former students at the University of Texas at Austin have agreed to pay $224,000 to the parents of a student who died in a 1986 fraternity hazing incident.

Mark Seeberger, an 18-year-old Phi Kappa Psi pledge, was found dead in his dormitory room the morning after he was handcuffed and driven around Austin in a van while being pressured to consume alcohol. An autopsy revealed that he had drunk about 18 ounces of rum.
