The parents of today’s undergraduates are much more involved in helping their children pick a college than their own parents were, according to a survey whose results will appear in an updated edition of a book on the current generation, Millennials Go to College, that was originally published in 2003.
The survey, the Datatel 2006 College Parent Survey, found that parents of the so-called Millennial students are part of a generation, sometimes referred to as Generation X, that values higher education — especially a college degree — more highly than did their own baby-boomer parents, according to a news release. The study was conducted by the book’s authors, Neil Howe and William Strauss, who have written several works about American generations.
