Panel Suggests Smithsonian Reforms
The Smithsonian Institution's Science Commission issued a report this month that calls on the federal agency to phase out financing for its Conservation and Research Center, seek dedicated funds in the federal budget for science programs, and return the focus of its Center for Materials Research and Education to its original mission of conducting conservation research on behalf of the Smithsonian's museums and collections.
