Oxford Wins Wider Court Ban on Animal-Rights Protests

A British court has extended a ban on animal-rights protests adjacent to a University of Oxford site where a biomedical-research center is under construction, the BBC reported. The university had sought the exclusion zone to protect construction workers from harassment by animal-rights activists, who pose a much more aggressive challenge to researchers in Britain than in the United States (The Chronicle, March 11, 2005). The court also expanded an order intended to protect students, faculty and staff members, and construction workers from harassment by protesters.
