Outspoken Kenyan Scholar Is Attacked
A well-known Kenyan scholar and writer who teaches at the University of California at Irvine was attacked and robbed at gunpoint in August while making his first visit to Kenya in 22 years. The scholar, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, is a frequent critic of the previous government.
