Our Community Colleges Can Solve Nation's Problems

Ron Knecht's Point of View ("Colleges Must Face Reality and Recognize Opportunity in the Economic Downturn," The Chronicle, January 9) may be on target regarding the totality of higher education's costs, but his not mentioning community colleges as the major avenue toward a potential solution shows a typical lack of understanding of the nation's community colleges as the largest segment of U.S. higher education.
