To the Editor:
Kudos for setting out what Chancellor Nancy Cantor of Syracuse University is doing ("Syracuse's Slide," The Chronicle, October 2): specifically, that Ms. Cantor talks about the institution as a "public good" and not as an ivory tower—and demonstrates that she means what she says.
Syracuse is not fading on the national stage, but rather gaining exposure because of Nancy Cantor. Other universities should follow her lead.
